A Different Kind of Company, A Different Kind of Open Source

Years ago when the Saturn car company (who no longer exists) launched a marketing campaign, there slogan was “A different kind of company, a different kind of car”.  That is exactly how I want to be.  Of course, people need money, and it takes money to live.  I already have a job, where I actually do pretty well financially.  Of course, I would love to be self-employed and work for myself instead of someone else.

But that’s not why I created CarsonDB.  My former partners had one goal in mind.  They wanted as much money for themselves as possible.  But, I wanted to develop a product I could be proud of and that would create technologies that would help the pets we love.  That’s why, after I was forced out, I decided to pursue my original goals.

So, what does that have to do with the former Saturn slogan?  As you know, CarsonDB contains both Open Source and freeware components.  I am offering commercial licenses, but they will be considered on a case by case basis.  Would I like to make money on CarsonDB?  Yes, I would.  But, more importantly, I want something, first and foremost, that I have created a product I can be proud of and something that can help save the lives and improve the quality of lives of our pets.

That is why I have given you a variety of ways to get support.  I plan on adding more, like a toll-free phone number, but those things will come eventually.  Right now, you can go to Cheetabase.com and enter your contact information and question.  You can also use the contact page on CarsonDB or ask the question as part of a blog post.  My intention is on getting back with you within 24 hours barring any unforeseen circumstances.  Holidays may take a little longer, but I will certainly try to get back with you just as quickly as I would on a normal day.

My goal is to support CarsonDB, although it is an Open Source project, just like it is a commercial system.  I want to be “A different king of company, a different kind of Open Source”.
